Core pirate progression

1. Practise moving on the starting vessel and learn how your position affects its turn.
2. Earn early gold through fishing, gathering, or lower-risk exploration.
3. Compare market prices and sell resources where the return justifies the voyage.
4. Buy supplies and improve the ship without spending every coin at once.
5. Explore new islands, keep the vessel ready for a quick departure, and watch for rival sails.
6. Choose whether the next opportunity is better handled through trade, avoidance, cannon fire, or close combat.
7. Protect accumulated wealth while expanding ships, buildings, and leaderboard progress.

Sailing and ship control

Ship steering is linked to the pirate's movement on deck. Moving left or right with A and D shifts the character and turns the vessel in the corresponding direction, while the mouse controls where the pirate looks and attacks. This separation lets you adjust the sailing line while watching or firing at a target, but it takes practice to avoid turning into an island or losing the cannon angle.

Plan turns before reaching a shoreline or narrow channel. When stopping at an island, leave the bow facing open water so the ship can escape without completing a slow turn under fire.

Cannons, swords, and positioning

Naval combat depends on relative speed, broadside angle, range, and the opponent's likely turn. Pointing the bow directly at an enemy may shorten the distance but can deny your cannon a clean shot. Create a side angle, fire when the target crosses the weapon's arc, then change course before the rival answers.

Swords and other close attacks become more useful when vessels touch, a pirate boards another ship, or players meet on an island. Do not keep adjusting a cannon when the fight has already moved inside its useful angle.

Fishing, trade, and steady income

Fishing provides a relatively safe way to build initial funds, earn rewards during a voyage, or recover from a weak start. It is not risk-free: focusing on the catch for too long lets another ship approach unnoticed.

Trading offers a non-combat growth path. Compare buying and selling prices, account for the journey and its danger, and reserve enough cash for supplies or a better opportunity. Carrying valuable goods creates profit potential but also makes losing control of the route more costly.

Islands, resources, and building

Before landing, circle far enough out to inspect the shore, nearby ships, and a route back to the vessel. On land, gather resources, complete trade, or work toward construction without allowing another pirate to block the return path.

Buildings consume gold and materials and should solve a useful economic or strategic need. A safe location near resources and a familiar sailing route is more valuable than several scattered structures that are difficult to supply or defend.

Ships, upgrades, and the leaderboard

A combat-focused pirate can prioritise firepower and durability, an explorer may value speed and manoeuvrability, and a trader benefits from reliable long-distance travel. Balanced upgrades are useful when the player moves between all of these activities.

The leaderboard centres on accumulated gold, so combat is only one path upward. As wealth and rank increase, other players have more reason to pursue you; reduce unnecessary risks, avoid crowded battles, and keep enough mobility and cash to recover from a bad encounter.
