What Is Temple of Boom?
Temple of Boom is a pixel-art platform shooter where you run, double-jump, collect weapons, and fight monsters across compact multi-level arenas. Enemy waves enter from several directions, so survival depends as much on movement and escape routes as raw firepower.
Campaign sends you through three temples, while Endless continues spawning enemies for a high-score survival challenge. One player can take on the monsters alone, or two people can share one keyboard for cooperative and local versus action.
Who Made Temple of Boom?
Temple of Boom was created by Colin Lane Games and released for browsers in June 2016. The developer is also known for compact arcade games such as Wrassling, Dunkers, Golf Zero, and Fortz.
The game keeps its rules deliberately direct: there is no long tutorial or inventory-management layer. Pixel visuals, short controls, exaggerated weapons, and fast restarts place the focus on learning arena routes, reading incoming waves, and improving a personal survival record.

How Does Temple of Boom Play?
Basic survival loop
- Choose Campaign, Endless, or an available two-player rule.
- Move between platforms and locate the first weapon before enemies close in.
- Use jumps and a delayed second jump to avoid attacks or reach another level.
- Break or approach weapon containers, collect a suitable gun, and watch its remaining usefulness.
- Clear the nearest threats without letting another entrance or platform fill with monsters.
- Switch weapons before the current option leaves you trapped at the wrong range.
- Complete the current temple or keep surviving to improve the Endless score.
Campaign and Endless
Campaign provides structured progress through three temples. Each arena introduces its own platform layout and enemy pressure, making this the clearest place to learn weapon pickup, double jumps, and safe routes.
Endless removes the fixed finish and continues generating enemies until the player is defeated. Space becomes harder to control as threats accumulate, so protecting an exit and collecting a replacement weapon safely matter more than chasing every immediate elimination.
Movement and double jumps
Each temple uses stacked ledges, gaps, corridors, and entry points. A second press of the jump key activates a double jump that can reach higher platforms, cross a group, or correct a dangerous landing. Using both jumps immediately gives maximum height but removes the emergency adjustment that often prevents a surround.
Weapons and pickups
Weapon drops and containers provide firearms with different ranges, rates of fire, and crowd-control value. Fast automatic weapons help against several approaching targets, close-range weapons protect narrow platforms, long-range options clear safer lanes, and explosive shots are most efficient against clustered enemies.
A pickup is not automatically safe because it appears nearby. Clear the landing area, draw monsters away when necessary, and collect the replacement before the current weapon becomes ineffective. Health or ammunition pickups may also appear in supported versions and should be approached with the same caution.
Local two-player play
Two players use separate key groups on the same keyboard. Cooperative play works best when one person covers upper routes while the other protects the lower level, then swaps roles when a weapon or health pickup appears. Local versus rules turn the same movement and weapon-control systems into a head-to-head arena battle. This is shared-device multiplayer, not online matchmaking.
Game Controls
Temple of Boom uses keyboard controls and does not require mouse aiming during a match. Choose the control set shown for the selected player mode.

How Can You Survive More Waves?
- Secure the first weapon quickly. Basic firepower is more valuable than exploring while monsters are already entering the room.
- Keep changing levels. Moving between upper and lower platforms prevents one entrance from building an unchecked crowd.
- Save the second jump. Delay the airborne press until you know whether the safest landing is ahead, behind, or above.
- Check the landing before crossing a group. Clearing one cluster is pointless if the double jump places you inside another.
- Remove enemies that block an exit first. A distant monster is usually less urgent than one occupying the only safe escape route.
- Collect weapons after creating space. Draw nearby enemies away, change platforms, and return instead of stopping beside a dangerous pickup.
- Match the weapon to the crowd. Save explosive or wide attacks for groups and use faster weapons when threats arrive from both directions.
- Switch before the emergency. Do not wait until enemies are touching the character to discover that the current gun is empty or poorly suited.
- Scan both sides after every burst. Tunnel vision on one corridor lets another platform fill unnoticed.
- Prioritise survival in Endless. A safe route and dependable pickup cycle produce a better score than risky pursuit.
- Split the arena in co-op. Assign upper and lower levels or opposite sides so both players do not chase the same enemy.
- Cover a teammate collecting a weapon. Keeping one player firing prevents both characters from becoming vulnerable at once.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I play Temple of Boom for free without downloading it?
Yes. Temple of Boom runs in a supported browser and normally does not require a separate game installation. Allow the page time to load its game files before starting.
Is Temple of Boom online multiplayer?
No. Its two-player modes are local: both people play on the same device and share one keyboard. There is no public online matchmaking in the original browser game.
Can two players cooperate instead of fighting each other?
Yes. Available two-player rules can include cooperative monster fighting as well as local versus battles. Select the desired mode from the game menu before starting.
Why are the two-player controls different from the single-player controls?
Single-player uses the arrow keys with Z and X. In two-player mode, Player 1 moves to W, A and D with S, C and V, leaving the arrow keys plus K and L for Player 2.
How do I perform a double jump?
Press the player's jump key once to leave the ground, then press it again while airborne. Delaying the second press lets you correct the landing or avoid a late attack.
What is the difference between Campaign and Endless mode?
Campaign provides structured progress through three temples. Endless has no fixed final temple and continues producing enemies until the player is defeated, making survival time or score the main objective.
Why did my weapon stop being useful?
Weapons can differ in range, firing behaviour, and available shots. Switch to another carried weapon or create enough space to collect a replacement before enemies surround you.
Which mode should a new player try first?
Start with Campaign. Its structured temples make it easier to learn pickup positions, enemy routes, double-jump timing, and weapon switching before attempting a long Endless run.
Why do some keys fail when two people play together?
Some keyboards cannot register several simultaneous keys, a limitation commonly called key ghosting. Try releasing unnecessary keys, changing which fingers press at once, or using a keyboard with stronger multi-key rollover support.
What should I do if the game won't load, lags, shows a blank screen, or won't start?
Try one of these three steps:
- Clear your browser cache, then reload the game.
- Open the game in an incognito or private browsing window.
- Try a different browser, such as Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome.
